About The State Line Ruritan Club
The origins of the State Line Ruritan Club dates back to the early to mid 1950's when a group of local people saw the need for a community organization to help unify the different interests of the community. With Ruritan being a civic organization with the goal of creating a bond between the local agricultural communities and other business professions, it was felt that such a relationship would benefit the State Line Community.

Ruritan as a national organization began May 21, 1928 in Holland, VA. Tom Downing and Jack Gwaltney formed an organization to provide " Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service" for local communities. Today Ruritan serves 1100 local communities through 30,000 members. Ruritan is Americas leading community service organization. The name " Ruritan " was suggested by Daisy Nurney, a reporter for the Norfolk Virginian-Pilot newspaper. The word is a combination of two Latin words: " Ruri " meaning, " Open country " and " Tan " meaning, " Small town ".

We are extremely proud to have three charter members in our club. These gentlemen have contributed thousands of hours to our club and community over the years.  Thank You!

Congratulations!
